Just not the same…

Just minutes ago I watched Barry Bonds break the all-time home run record live on-line here in the dorm room where I’m staying in Evansville.

It’s a pretty amazing scene. Home Run number 756. The most hallowed & prestigious record in all of sports, I believe.


I also remember watching live on TV on April 8th, 1974 as Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s record by hitting his 715th home run. I was 10 years old.


As exciting as it was to watch tonight…it just wasn’t the same as it was when Aaron achieved this level of greatness…much, much sadder.


Not a good day for baseball.

I heard that he broke the record the other day and I said to myself, big deal. In fact, I would be embarrassed getting acclaim for tying a record of someone like Babe Ruth in light of Barry Bonds recent drug use. I couldn't agree more, a sad day indeed...
