Gouge your eye out…
We are in the midst of a series entitled “The Words I Wish Jesus Never Said” at Crossings.It’s a study of these teachings such as “Lose your life to find it”, “Love your enemies”, “I am the Way”, etc.
This past week we approached, delicately I might add, “Gouge your eye out”. (By the way, if you’d like to listen to this teaching or anything others, you can download them on I-Tunes.)
The passages we taught from were… Matthew 5:29-30
29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away… 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.
And Matthew 18:6
6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

Your sermon was one of the most thought provoking I've heard in a long time...and the Ken clip was...well...POIGNANT to say the least! My husband and I are still talking about the irony of a "visual" to help establish the idea of "gouging your eye out." Crossings is that kind of church, tho...heavy on the irony, big on the Truth. We ALWAYS have a wonderful time visiting with you (and then spend 2 or 3 weeks saying, "Wish I was at Crossings today!")
