The Great Mirror Theft of NYC…

It’s Wednesday morning here in New York…all is well. I’m pretty tired, (I might be getting too old for this), but we’re loving our time with the people from the Hollis Church and our time in Manhattan.

There are a few things I need to write and share about, but I only have time for one this morning before we get going again…

Monday night something happened that hasn’t happened in any of my previous 17-18 years of coming to the city.

Our van was vandalized. We had parked it in Queens, near Shea Stadium, and had ridden the 7 train into Manhattan. When we returned, as always, I was grateful the van was still there. But as we started getting in, Michael yelled from the other side of the van, “Um, dad, is your mirror gone on that side?”.

Sure enough. Both were stolen. Looked liked they were simply popped out, clean and swift by some experts. (We have since learned we parked right in the middle of a ‘chop shop’ area of Queens. My bad.)

We called the police and then waited there for a while for them to come…

We did find a way to have some fun as we waited for the police to show up…(i.e.- Philip Goodlet’s toe touches). But the highlight of the evening was after the police showed up, the officers (who were great) asked if we wanted to take some pictures with them and their police cruiser.

The pictures will follow in a couple of days…(look especially for the one of Bill being pushed into the back seat of the Police car as if he’s being arrested)…but for now, you have to take my word for it…it was pretty amazing.

You might think, ‘Big deal, they lost their side mirrors.’ Well, in the city, driving a 15 passenger van, the side mirrors are quite possibly the most important piece of the vehicle. We are learning to drive as a team…Two people on each side communicating with me to let me know when it’s safe to go or change lanes. Quite an adventure…

May God continue to protect us here in the city…

So, looks like we are having the same type luck in our travels this week. Daniel spilled an entire glass of soda on me on the plane. It also managed to get all over my purse. Well as i scooped up my purse, evidently my wallet fell out and i didn't have a clue. So this morning at 6:30 i got a call from a girl in Ft. Worth who has my wallet. She evidently found it on the plane. She assures me that all is safe and is overnighting it to me so that i can get back home-without an I.D. they wont let me on the plane. May God continue to protect you like he protected us! Tell my sister to behave...and i love her.
