New York, New York
My family and I and four others leave tomorrow morning for New York City.We are going to spend a week there working with the Hollis Community Church of Christ in Queens.
It was about 18 years ago or so when I first met the community that was then known as the Jamaica Avenue Church of Christ. About 16 of us went with an organization called Christ in Youth and had one of those ‘life-changing’ experiences.
Since that trip I’ve probably visited my friends there in Queens 15-20 times.
We have led Vacation Bible Schools, week long Revivals, retreats in the mountains and neighborhood outreaches. I have taken groups of high school students, college students and adult groups.
I have seen many of the children there grow up and go away to college…I’ve seen the believers there mourn the loss of some of their loved ones. It’s a community of around 40-50 of the best people in the world.
In so many ways this is my home church.
