Let it be...

Wednesday night, while still in Chicago, my wife called me and told me my 15 year old son, Matthew, was playing in worship that night (which I already knew). She said he’d be playing the piano that night instead of the bass (which I also knew), and she told me he was playing and singing “Let it be” from the Beatles as part of the service, (this I didn’t know)

My son has a tendency to forget to mention things like this…”Ah dad, I just forgot to mention it. Sorry.” So I end up hearing from other people how great he is. (The legend is still growing of his Johnny Cash version of “Hurt” about a year ago)

Monica called me with the idea of calling me back when the song began and letting me listen to Matthew sing over the phone.

So 30 minutes later I answered the phone and I stood there next to the shelf with the new biographies and just outside the restrooms in the Naperville Barnes and Noble and listened with great pride and love for my son. It was absolutely tremendous.

(I don’t recommend listening to most music via Cingular, but when it’s your child you take what you can get.)

I’m so proud of my son. So amazed at his passion and gifts…

May God continue to have His way with both…

I will try and give one more report on the New Thing Gathering in a couple of days…I’m off to do a wedding in Atlanta in just a few minutes.
