…in the spirit of Crossings

Below is a poem by Kevin Reeve who told me it was written ‘in the spirit of Crossings’. (If you’d want to read more of his writings click here)

I pray God brings Kevin’s words to fruition in our community of faith…

zero g

what to hope
for this hopeful place
this hope-filled
hope surrounded
hope imagined
ordinary looking
unassuming place:
that its 1950s brick
will become a fortress
against the very forces
of darkness
(yes, please)

but what I had in mind
was a freedom
for all who enter
simply freedom
from gravity
the cares
that weighed them down
and kept them up
may be in their pockets
a slow burn of anger
a red-faced shame
dire disappointments
all may be stashed
in a sock, a shoe,
a corner of the heart
but may they carry
no weight here
of no more value
than a handful of pesos
in a Japanese tea shop

may every act
of welcome
of kindness
of diversion
from a too earnest world
every glance of grace
each salty salutation
be our way
our unique manner of saying,
“I’m sorry,
your worry’s no good here.
Will you settle
for joy instead?”
