Moving rhythmically and easily…

I love Ephesians 4, especially verses 11-13…

“He handed out gifts above and below, filled heaven with his gifts, filled earth with his gifts. He handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train Christ's followers in skilled servant work, working within Christ's body, the church, until we're all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God's Son…”

The obvious application is there when it comes to this adventurous world of church planting: God takes all these gifts He’s given and teaches us all to move together, rhythmically and easily with each other, as we play our roles in helping people find their way back to God.

But the relevancy takes on a magnified profundity (good phrase, huh) when you sit in a dark corner of an auditorium, like I am at this very moment, and watch your 15 year old son rehearsing with the band for this coming Sunday’s worship gathering at Crossings, like I am at this very moment, and you are overwhelmed with a sense of pride in your son and gratefulness to your God to witness a true gift being given back to God…like I am at this very moment.

Mark,

There is nothing like the moment when your giftedness and God's will and purpose for your life meet and become one. I always walk away with the distinct feeling that "I was born to do this" when those moments occur. I had one of those moments last Saturday afternoon as I stood in front of 50 family members and performed my maternal grandmother's graveside service. I still cannot find the words to describe the power of those 20 minutes.....
