Mailing #2...
Our second mailing for Crossings went out today...20,000 pieces to the Bearden & Ft. Sanders areas of Knoxville...This is still a weird concept to me, but I still firmly believe that our hearts are right in our approach...May God continue to have His way with Crossings...(If you have trouble reading the text on the back side just click on the picture and it will get larger)

ya know what, i would never even have thought of post cards... but heck, to tell you the truth, i'd be interested. i would probably just come to see who these people were and if they are serious... i'd probably even ask some questions... guess thats the point huh?
i'm so excited about this whole thing even from 2 states away... it great to hear how God's providing as the excitement builds:)- at 10:51 PM Matthew said...
Heard about you guys through someone I met tonight in Nash. We just launched a church here this weekend. We sent out 40,000 mailers the week before launch. We had 300 people at the launch service. About 50 of those indicated they were there because of the postcard. It's a large financial investment, but getting your name out in the community is priceless. God bless as you guys get ready...we understand the stress that comes with it...

Mark,
I have to say I share your reservations about marketing and the church. But, I also know that's what people expect these days, especially my generation.
I think when you get to the point that you DON'T think or ponder a bit before you send out a mailing is when you need to worry.- at 11:59 AM said...
I don't see what's controversial or even weird about marketing the church. That's really what a website does essentially, and even the congregations in Lower Podunkia have an online presence. What message deserves more marketing, more hype, more balloons and blimps and spotlights and screaming-from-the-tops-of-buildings than the message of Christ? Marketing is just using tools we have for a purpose. Like Paul tailoring his message to every city he visited, becoming whoever, whatever, wherever to reach all he could by all means possible.
Besides, Lord knows the Church needs a good PR makeover. :)- at 12:01 PM said...
i like your last sentence kevin...even though it was kind of in a joking manner. this is a great opportunity to save face after all the cheese ball or low quality PR that's been out there for churches over the years. i hadn't thought of that and i think it's a good challenge!
