For the love of Anne...
I finished a book by Anne Lamott a couple of days ago...Man, I like her writings...I don’t agree with everything, but very few people seem to get grace like Lamott does…I’m a big ‘quote guy’ so here are some of my favorites from ‘Plan B, Further Thoughts on Faith’:
In writing about Jesus’ response to the women caught in sin in John 8…
-“Jesus refuses to interact with the people on their level of hatred and madness.”
-“Nobody gets into heaven without a letter of reference from the poor”
On prayer…
-“When you pray, you are not starting the conversation from scratch, you’re just remembering to plug back into a conversation that’s already in progress.”
-“I live by the truth that ‘no.’ is a complete sentence.”
-“Laughter is carbonated holiness.”
And my favorite…
-“I don’t need to understand the hypostatic unity of the Trinity; I just need to turn my life over to whoever came up with the Redwood trees.”

Yeah...between the two books I enjoyed Traveling Mercies most, by far...her story of finding Jesus is tremendous...or should I say 'being found by Jesus'...

I haven't found any Anne Lamott that I don't like yet. Her fiction is really good, too. Blue Shoe is the only one I've read thus far, but I like it.
I also really like Operating Instrutctions. I reccommend it for some of the new parents that I work with.
