Goin' to tent meetin'...
I have 5 more days here in Chicagoland before I head south to Evansville and then west to Sacramento and then to Knoxville on 8.11. (my family made it to Knoxville safely on Friday, thank you to those who prayed)I've been reflecting on my time here, the experiences at Community Christian Church... It's been a great summer...
Today for worship I attended the Naperville Downtown location. Normally they meet in Naperville North H.S. but they've had to make some adjustments for three weeks this summer while some renovations happen at the High School. To read the specifics go to Dave Ferguson's blog
This morning for worship we met in a tent on the front lawn of a local middle school (the kid's were in the Children's Museum across the street). It was hot...really hot. (Everyone on the set up team went through two to three shirts each before the service)
The campus pastor,Troy McMahon, mentioned to start the service that in the history of CCC (it started in 1989) this was the first time they had ever tried a Sunday service outside, and of course the crowd cheered. It was a great time of worship, teaching and communion.
One of the things I've noticed this summer is that you hear the phrase, 'it's the first time we've tried it' alot. "Lead with a 'yes'" is a common phrase around CCC. It's who they are. It's one of the main reasons that God is using CCC to 'help people find their way back to God' in so many amazing ways....
For a point of reference, check out this list of the 50 most influential churches
Considering what I've seen and experienced this summer...this morning's 'tent meetin' ended appropriately, with all those sweaty people singing out with one voice...
And we can see that God You're moving,
A mighty river through the nations
Where young and old return to Jesus,
Fling wide you heavenly gates,
Prepare the way of the Risen Lord!
