A safe and happy place...
Crossings sent out its first of three mailings this past week. About 20,000 pieces of mail, mostly around the Bearden & Fort Sanders area of Knoxville, are being sent out in preparation for our launch on 2.11.07.Those of you who know me know that it has been a philosophical struggle within me from day one of signing up for this ‘church planting gig’ when it comes to any thing that can be construed as marketing.
Regardless of what the experts say about the value of mailings, it’s still been something that I needed to find balance in. We’re not ‘selling Jesus’, I know that, but I had to find a place where it felt like we maintain a depth of authenticity while simply trying to let people know of this dream that we believe God has for this faith community.
I think I have found that ‘safe & happy place’ when it comes to mailings…
Kevin & Carol Reeve, part of our incredibly Lead Team, developed these three concepts that are not about Crossings having all the right answers, not being the only place to find God, but instead concepts that try to convey the message that Crossings is a place where we simply ask people to enter into a story with us, inviting them to ask questions and to come as they are.
I’ve included the first card we sent below…I’ll post the others as they each come out. (If you have trouble reading the text on the back side just click on the picture and it will get larger)
A special thanks to Reggie Hundley and his staff at Mission Services for working so many hours to print, cut, and send these pieces
