No Boo Radley this time...
Last evening I gave a Crossings update at a meeting of the Smoky Mountain Christian Men’s Fellowship. SMCMF is one of the three organizations partnering together to bring Crossings to fruition. (Stadia East & New Thing Network are the other two)For some of you regular standingonthedesk readers, you may remember my account of the last SMCMF meeting I attended (See August 19, A Boo Radley Moment…).
The good news is that ‘crazy prophet man’ was nowhere to found, but the even better news was the message given by Dr. David Eubanks, President of Johnson Bible College.
Dr. Eubanks has been the president of Johnson since 1969 and is retiring in 2007. He is a wonderful, Godly man and a tremendously gifted leader. As a graduate of Johnson it’s hard for me to imagine the school without Dr. Eubanks.
In his talk last evening…He spoke of “looking back” at the history of SMCMF, at the over 30 churches they have played a part in starting in the last few years, and of “going forward” by continuing to be committed to dream of planting churches emphasizing that, without a doubt, planting new churches has proven itself over and over again to be the most powerful and effective ways to help people find their way back to God.
He used statistic after statistic to emphasize the impact church planting continues to have in this world…it was powerful. And add to that a resounding endorsement of this new thing God is doing in Knoxville that we are calling Crossings and he had me dancing in the aisles…(metaphorically speaking, of course)
