Four months to launch…
Today is October 13th…121 days to the launch of Crossings on February 11th. I can’t wait…Four months seems like a long time, but I know, and I have been assured repeatedly, that the next 16 or 17 weeks will go incredibly quick.
God continues to make His ways known to us, and probably our biggest prayer is that we obey and follow and try not to get in His way…
A week ago we had a gathering of those we call our Launch Community (those who have expressed and interest in being a part of Crossings in some way)…it was a great time together of community and worship and sharing this excitement that I truly believes comes from God.
I shared that night with the 35 or so in attendance this quote from Francis Schaeffer from 1970:
One of the greatest injustices we do to our young people is to ask them to be conservative. Christianity is not conservative, but revolutionary. To be conservative today is to miss the whole point, for conservatism means standing in the flow of the status quo, and the status quo no longer belongs to us…If we want to be fair, we must teach the young to be revolutionaries, revolutionaries against the status quo.
In the book “Church on the Other Side” Brian McLaren writes in response to the above quote: “I was in college when I first read Schaeffer’s words. Now, over the threshold of the twenty-first century, with my own kids in college, Schaeffer’s words about revolution feel even more poignant, more stirring. I want to give my children a faith intended for revolution, not for status quo. And not just my children. I want that for myself---and for you…
I could not agree more…
To borrow the words of Mars Hill Church in Michigan: “It is the privilege of every person at Crossings, young and old, boy and girl---it is the privilege of every one of us---to be fully engaged in the difference Jesus is making in our world.”
Ours is a faith intended for revolution…
