The Blue Plate Special...

I experienced a great noontime concert this past Thursday… WDVX (A Knoxville radio station with a worldwide cult-like following) hosts a live-in-studio 60 minute concert each weekday, in downtown Knoxville called ‘The Blue Plate Special’.

The venue holds maybe 50-75 people (most of them on their lunch hours), Calhoun’s Restaurant has box lunches available and the artists perform on a stage that is about the size of your dining room table.

      Ollabelle played this week…
They are described as a “New York City-based sextet with a distinctive brand of Americana. With a respectable musical pedigree (all members are accomplished musicians and singer Amy Helm is the daughter of the Band's Levon Helm), Ollabelle mixes folk, bluegrass, blues, and gospel to fresh, appealing effect.”
The band’s eclecticism (that’s a great word, huh) was incredible…

I could swear that when they sang, “I’m gonna lay down my burdens down by the riverside” that I worshipped…at The Blue Plate Special.

Let us know if they come back to Kville. I'd like to catch a show.
