Manifesto of Freedom…
Two weeks ago, we began a study of the book of Romans during our Sunday morning gatherings. It’s an unbelievably powerful book…below are some quotes attesting to the power of the book:
Martin Luther“This letter is really the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest Gospel…It can never be read or pondered too much, and the more it is dealt with the more precious it becomes, and the better it tastes.”
John Calvin
“If we have gained a true understanding of this letter, we have an open door to all the most profound treasures of Scripture.”
FF Bruce
“There is no saying what may happen when people begin to study the letter to the Romans. So, let those who are here be prepared for the consequences of reading this book: you have been warned!”
Honestly, it’s hurting my brain as we prepare each week, as we wrestle through it as a community….but at the same time, it’s power has been overwhelmingly evident in just two weeks.
We’re calling the study, “Manifesto of Freedom”…based upon this quote by John Stott:
“Romans is a kind of Christian Manifesto…For here is unfolded the good news of freedom, freedom from the holy wrath of God upon all ungodliness, freedom from alienation into reconciliation, freedom from the condemnation of God’s law, freedom from the fear of death, freedom one day from the decay of the groaning creation, and meanwhile freedom from ethnic conflict in the family of God, and freedom to give ourselves to the loving service of God and others.”
May we all be set free as we study together…
