6 McChickens and 4 Apple Pies at Newfound Gap...

I drove up on Thursday to meet our AT Hikers at Newfound Gap (the only place any road crosses the AT in the Smokies) with Scott Branson and my son Matthew.

Michael had some trekking poles arrive in the mail after they had left, so we took them to him and stopped and got 6 McChickens, 3 Large Fries, 2 Cherry Pies, 2 Apple Pies & 8 liters of Powerade in Pigeon Forge and delivered all the goods.

I’m not sure cold French Fries have ever brought such joy to three people.

The trek is going well…some hiking in rain on Tuesday, getting up really early to hike in the dark to see the sunrise at Clingaman’s Dome (and not being able to see anything because of the fog), meeting some incredibly interesting people (Abraham Lincoln included)…so far so good.

Mickey D's in the shadow of the majestic mountains, sounds somehow bizarre and surreal all at the same time..

Abe Lincoln... WHAT??? You should have warned them about eating anything off the trail (like mushrooms).
