‘Family Time’ with small groups…

I’ve started a two-month run of trying to meet with most of the small groups at Crossings. My intention is for it to be a ‘family meeting time’ where we can talk about things coming up’ (i.e.- 4 Market Square), look forward to what’s next (i.e.- a new Crossings plant), and have a time to do some Q & A together.

Last night was the first of many groups with which I will meet. It was John & Angie Vaughn’s group. It was a great time, a great discussion, a great time of being thankful that God is allowing us all to be a part of this community…

But I have to say, it was hard to imagine it not going well with the start we had.

When I came to the front door of John & Angie’s home, John opened the door and was dressed in a suit. I started to make some comment about ‘dressing up’, figuring he just hadn’t changed from work or something when I looked into the living room and saw the rest of the group dressed up as well, suits and dresses, with Justin Hayse standing before the group pretending to be preaching, with commentaries and Bibles covering the coffee table, a fire in the fire place and classical music on the stereo.

They continued for a few minutes in character, until me being doubled over with laughter caused them to lose character. They did well pretending this was their ‘typical’ small group, and that they were happy to ‘welcome the pastor’ to their humble little group.

Great stuff…very, very funny.

I believe they have set the bar, thrown out the gauntlet if you will, to all the other groups…
