My very own ‘Freaks and Geeks’….
For some strange reason, over thanksgiving, I got out my high school yearbooks.(I have a friend that said he met someone I went to high school with, I didn’t remember this person so I got out my yearbooks to look them up, and ended up going through every page of my junior and senior years)
We also, my family and I, over thanksgiving, rented the first and only season of the TV Show ‘Freaks and Geeks’.

(Freaks and Geeks is a show about some high school students in 1980. I graduated high school in 1981)
First of all, ‘Freaks and Geeks’ is exactly as I remember it when I watched the show when it was on the air back in 1999…a hilarious, creative, ‘right on target’ show starring some people who have made it pretty big in TV and Movies. You really should rent this and watch it… If nothing else, just for the snippets of Styx songs that are played in some episodes.
Second of all, I realized, as I worked my way through my yearbooks, that I didn’t know or remember nearly as many people as I thought I did from my class of 750 students. And the memories I do have are…well, they’re very shallow, very non-substantial, basically having no impact on my life of today whatsoever. It was pretty depressing.
I think in the midst of strolling down memory lane that I came to the conclusion, finally, after some 27 years…that those three years of High School (my school only had 10th-12th grade in it) really sucked.
But then I would watch another episode of Freak and Geeks with my family and I felt much better. Too bad we can’t always live in a fictitious world created by Judd Apatow…
