Books and more books…
Let me try to remedy that very quickly…
Here are the books that I’m into…(obviously, some more than others)…these are the ones that have me thinking about everything from the story of Jesus in John to comparing Anne Lamott and Barry Manilow to discussing why everything must change.
The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible,
by A.J. Jacobs

by David Kinnaman & Gabe Lyons
-I have heard so much about this book and received it as a gift for Christmas. I haven’t started it, but it looks like a quick read.

by Chris Seay
StrengthsFinder 2.0, by Tom Rath
-I read the 1.0 years ago, and now I am going through this with some leaders. This is an excellent resource in terms of Leadership Training, and very interesting to simply do on your own.
by Brian McLare
n-McLaren’s latest that we just finished up in a book club I’m in. It was good. McLaren’s always thought provoking, this one was a little repetitive at the end.
Take This Bread- A Radical Conversion, by Sara Miles
-my friend tells me Miles makes Anne Lamott look like Barry Manilow. This is our next book to read in book club…we start next week.
Do you have any other recommendations?

"Cold Tangerines" by Shauna Niequist...
"Jim and Casper Go To Church" by Jim Henderson and Casper.
You've already listed 2 that I'd recommend. Haven't finished 'everything must change' nor 'take this bread'. Niequist is of the same mold as Miles and Lamott.
Thanks for 'unchristian'. I'd never even seen it.- at 6:39 PM Brad Smith said...
I am a couple of chapters in to "Ina Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day" by Mark Batterson and enjoying it quite a bit.
Based on a passage of scripture that i am guessing most people have never noticed. I know i hadn't.- at 11:41 PM said...
Here in the Adkins house we've been enjoying:
Fox in Socks
My Daddy Snores
Knufflebunny
Bunnycakes
If you do any of those for book club, let me know. I have some thoughts.- at 1:29 PM Mark Nelson said...
Jeph- I've heard about the Casper book... What's the Tangerine book about?
Brad- I started the Batterson book over break, I like the story from scripture as a good lead in, but I got a little bogged down...
Greg- Sorry, I got no comment for you...- at 9:37 AM said...
"The Jesus Creed" by Scot McKnight is my lastest adventure. Not through with it yet - makes you scratch your head and go "Hmm...."
But - really good book, really challenging. McKnight is a very engaging writer.
Just finished John Ortberg's latest book - "When the Game is Over, It All Goes Back in the Box". Thought provoking and, as with Ortberg, great writing!- at 3:53 PM Nicole said...
I am reading or have recently read:
Grown Up Marriage by Judith Viorst (not a Christian perspective, but has spectacular things to say on marriage and how to have a healthy one.)
Crazy for God by Frank Schaeffer (son of Francis)
It's his memoirs of growing up in the L'Abri community and such.
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
Kevin read The Year of Living Biblically, and enjoyed it. I'm wanting to read it soon. I need a fun light read these days.- at 7:02 AM Mark Nelson said...

Yeah, I heard Crazy for God is great...
Have your read Schaeffer's fictional trilogy, I think it's called the Calvin Becker Trilogy...?- at 7:41 AM Nicole said...
Yip! The Calvin Beck Triology is great. Funny but also uncomfortable. Reminds me of another favorite author of mine..John Irving.
I like a lot of Frank's earlier books, too. Sham Pearls for Real Swine is a favorite on art, etc. Kevin introduced me to that book when we were dating, and the fact that he could love those ideas as much as I did was part of what made me know he was the guy for me.- at 11:03 AM said...
Lots of books to be read, but this article is real fascinating.
