Living Biblically…
I’ve been reading and prepping to teach from John 6 in a few weeks.Specifically these verses: 60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?" 61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you?
Then a little later…
66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
In some of my research I came upon a book coming out this week, written by A.J. Jacobs---The Year of Living Biblically: One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible
I also found this interview with him from Conan O’Brien last night…your thoughts?

Did this guy just totally miss the point of the Bible, or what? Funny interview but very misrepresentative of biblical living.

That is an extremely interesting interview. I want to read that book.
Ooo Mark, that gives me an idea...from September '08 to May '09, lets do the series "Things I Wish Moses Never Said".
Think about it, there's a lot there.- at 2:48 PM said...
Actually, I thought Mark was already planning a series called "The Bible I never Knew" which will launch his campaign to remove all references to Paul from scripture.

This is an interesting dude. He previous book was called something like "The Know It All" where he read through the ENTIRE encyclopedia brittanica. He has said in other interviews that this has brought about a curiousity about God that he didn't have before.
I would be curious to read the book because he seems to adhere mostly to the Old Testament laws. I wonder what he did when he came across, "Go and sell everything you have and give it to the poor." Now that would be something to read about.- at 4:49 PM Mark Nelson said...
Yeah, I've seen nothing about anything from NT...everything he talked about was from the OT...

Interesting.
Also, from your reference to those particular verses in John and the context preceding them, I once again am reminded to tell you to read "Eat This Book" by Eugene Peterson.- at 9:59 AM said...
He's Jewish, or at least Jewish like the Olive Garden is Italian, so I doubt he looked much at the New Testament.
