Sunday's comin'...

Below are some of my favorite Resurrection Week quotes…

“We live in a Good Friday world…but we are Easter People”

Frederick Buechner- "If the life that was in Jesus died on the cross; if the love that was in Him came to an end when His heart stopped breathing…then all was despair"

"Unless something very real took place on that strange, confused morning, there would be no N.T., no church, no Christianity."

John Irving, “A Prayer for Owen Meany”-
I find that Holy Week is draining; no matter how many times I have lived through His crucifixion, my anxiety about His resurrection is undiminished---I am terrified that, this year, it won’t happen; that, that year, it didn’t. Anyone can be sentimental about the Nativity; any fool can feel like a Christian at Christmas. But Easter is the main event; if you don’t believe in the resurrection, you’re not a believer.

Probably for many people the phrase “It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Coming” is significant during this Resurrection Week… It comes from a famous sermon by Tony Campolo given years ago.

I tried to find the audio of Campolo giving the talk…couldn’t find it. I did find a video a group called ignitermedia.com has put on YouTube.com

It’s not Campolo, and it’s not even close to the actual words he spoke, yet it’s pretty good.

Yes - for me, John Irving's last line says it all.
