No surprise at the US Open…
I don’t know if you saw the highlights from the US Open Women’s Semifinal last night or not…It ended in a pretty unbelievable way, that is, unless you’re familiar with my theory on Serena Williams (see past posts)The issue comes from the fact that the women’s semifinal should have been played on Thursday, and then the final would have been played on Saturday. So, it wouldn’t have been an issue. But because of rain, the semis would be played on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
Here’s what happened last night:
In the second set of her semifinal match, down 4-5 and serving, Serena was called for a foot fault. And she went off.
Serena angrily confronted the lineswoman who made the call, dropping the f-word liberally and, getting in her face and waving her racket and later the ball menacingly, saying, "I swear to God I'm [expletive] going to take this [expletive] ball and shove it down your [expletive] throat, you hear that? I swear to God."
She was appropriately assessed a penalty point (she had already destroyed a racket earlier in the match out of anger), and that penalty point was match point. So Serena lost and wouldn’t advance to the finals on Sunday.
How convenient.
Playing a final on Sunday, this Sunday, the first Sunday of the NFL season, shouldn’t be a problem for a women’s professional tennis player, unless…you happen to be both Serena Williams (the tennis player) AND Ricky Williams (a running back for the Miami Dolphins).
So…you knew it had to be a safe bet that Serena would not win her semifinal match against Kim Clisters on Saturday. Because she/he would have to be in Atlanta the next day to play the Falcons and couldn’t play the finals in New York.
I don’t know how long it’s going to take for the truth of this matter to finally be revealed throughout the rest of the world, but you, the reader, should feel great satisfaction that you knew before they did.
No, no need to thank me.
Below is the youtube.com clip from the match...

I missed watching the match live, but the minute I saw the clip I knew I had to check your blog! Her statement was exactly that- a statement, not an apology. Can't they suspend her? I don't see how you can think you aren't threatening when you are waving a racquet around and you are of a certain, let’s just say 'heft'.

i'm guessing you weren't a fan of mcenroe when you were younger? :)
serena imploded. she never showed up and she knew it. and she took it out on everyone.
but, i will say that the line calls in that match were the worst i've seen maybe in this era. they replayed so many bad calls that i kinda felt bad...even though it was serena.- at 11:12 AM Mark Nelson said...
No...I didn't like McEnrore...but at least HE wasn't playing on the women's tour in disguise...
Also, please remember Jeph...this is a 'no compassion zone for Serena/Ricky'...regardless of how bad the calls were...- at 12:54 PM jason said...
I found it hilarious. It reminded me a lot of you that one time that I beat you in tennis. That one, lone time, long ago. Once.
