Arts Academy concludes…for now.
Over the past three weeks, Crossings has held an arts academy at Tribe One here in Knoxville. It’s just been one day a week for those three weeks about 3+ hours per day. It’s basically a ‘pilot program’ approach, wanting to see if this is something as a community we should be investing more time and energy into. It’s been a great experience.
We had 20-25 Crossings people each week give of themselves to bring the truth and beauty of art to the lives of about 15 8th & 9th graders in the Park Ridge area.
We offered classes in four basic areas: words (poetry, spoken word, etc.), movements (dance), pictures (sculptures), and sounds (songwriting, recording, etc.).
It’s amazing the giftedness that we have in our community and the willingness to share those gifts.
The next step is to consider how we might implement something like this into a one day a week after-school academy. The potential is great…
Do any of you know of any other organizations, in Knoxville or beyond, that might be good for us to study as we continue this discussion? I'm aware of a couple, but would like an exhaustive list...
