318 turns, 11 miles…
Sorry for the lack of posts for a few days…been a busy time…I’ll try and catch up the next day or so from last week…My sons and I, plus Johnny & Jacob, went to a place called Fontana Lake last Tuesday evening. We were gone for just 24 hours or so but had a great time…it’s about an hour and half to two hours away from Knoxville, but until now, I’d never been to this incredibly beautiful area.

To get to Fontana you drive what is called “The Tail of the Dragon”. I’ve heard about this, but never experienced it. It’s an 11 mile stretch of the road with 318 turns. It’s called “America’s Number One motorcycle and sports car road”. It’s beautiful, but make sure your stomach can handle the turns if you go. (We had to stop for Jacob to puke 9 times on the way there. Yes, Bueller fans, 9 times.)
We set up at the camp site in the rain late Tuesday night, but it was worth it the next day to get to play the great disc golf course they have there. (one of the best I’ve ever played)…we got in 36 holes on Wednesday, highlighted by Michael’s throw of at least 550 feet, (those steroids in his baby food bananas are paying off)We also visited the Fontana TVA Dam…they have an overlook there at the visitor’s center. Pretty amazing place, great historical stuff. The Appalachian Trail runs right through there as well…

Sounds like you had a great time. I do love Fontana. I can't imagine how all those people ride motorcycles on that road...I'm just not made for that.

I want to ride this road on my Honda Reflex scooter. Ironically, I just posted a message on the Relex owners group to find someone to ride it with me.
I didn't know there was a disc golf course up there too. Yet another reason to take this ride.......sounds like a fun day!
