From Virginia to Oregon for Compassion…
As my family and I take the easy way to Oregon (flying), our friend Brian Dunn, (Pervis to most people) is taking the hard way…
Pervis left this morning from Yorktown, Virginia for Astoria, Oregon…on his bike.
He has been in Uganda for the past two years in the Peace Corps working with Compassion International, and came up with this bike ride idea for the adventure and to raise $30,000 for Compassion. (to the left is a picture of Pervis riding in Uganda)
He is riding the Transamerica Bicycle Trail.
From his latest e-mail…”On June 11th I’ll ceremoniously dip my rear bicycle wheel in the Atlantic Ocean as I begin my bicycle ride across the US which is being done to raise money and support for a simple building for the Compassion kids to meet in and to raise awareness and support for Kyamate CDC, a children's aid organization in Uganda partnered with Compassion International. The goal is to raise $30,000 by August of 2008 (the end of the bike ride) to build a community center for the 285 OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children). The center will also serve the secondary school, primary school and church in the community.”

By the way, once he returns, Pervis will be Crossings’ very first Leadership Resident…Woo Hoo!
