The only way to win…
My frustration with the growing sentiment in the different theological circles continues to increase.Hearing about ‘this group’ arguing with ‘that group’, and the aligning of ‘those people’ with ‘that author/teacher’ because ‘this author/teacher’ said you should is, unfortunately, a part of far too many conversations…
Sometimes it plays itself out like a Junior High PE Class choosing sides for a rousing game of kickball…
Actually, my friend Alan gave me a much better analogy the other day…he compared it to a ‘scriptural cold war’, with the definition of the Cold War being:

A state of political hostility existing between countries, characterized by threats, violent propaganda, subversive activities and other measures short of actual open warfare, particularly the period of conflict, tension and competition between the United States and the Soviet Union from the mid-1940s until the early 1990s.
Throughout this period, the rivalry between the two superpowers unfolded in multiple arenas: military coalitions; ideology, psychology, and costly defense spending;
There was never a direct military engagement between the US and the Soviet Union, but there was half a century of military buildup as well as political battles for support around the world.
Doesn’t that sound a little like what is going on today, 'theologically speaking'...?

Maybe the appropriate response should be what another friend, Greg, quoted from that old Matthew Broderick 1983 movie ‘WarGames’: “The only way to win is to not play the game.”
