…some family time
Yesterday at Crossings we took a break from our ‘typical teaching time’. For two weeks prior, we had solicited questions from our community. Questions about any and everything that was related to this 14-month-old church. We had some great questions…and hosted by Kevin Reeve (our very own John Stewart), our staff, (Bill, Monica and I), sat on a couch on stage and attempted to answer the questions that were posed.
Nothing rehearsed, (I made sure I didn’t know the questions beforehand), just a chance to share our hearts and revisit the God’s vision for Crossings.
Honestly, I had some reluctance in doing something like this. I think I was afraid it was a little too self-indulgent, a little too ‘hey, look at us!’. It turned out my reluctance was unfounded. It went well, I think.
You may have heard about Starbucks closing all their stores on February 26th for 3 ½ hours for some ‘extra employee time’. That’s over 7,000 stores…135,000 employees.

The employees, all together in every store, heard from the CEO of Starbucks about their original vision. There was some strategy changes introduced and some universal retraining of everyone at each store.
Dave Ferguson, on his blog, wrote about his daughter, (who works at Starbucks), and her experience that day…
"When my daughter got home here is what she said to me, "Dad, you would have loved it!...It's really weird, I know that I really work at a fast food chain, but they made me believe that it really matters."
Regardless of how you feel about the life-changing value of Starbucks…in my mind, what they did is so illustrative of what we wanted to do yesterday at Crossings.
We, in a sense, shut down for 3 ½ hours to make sure we know why this community called Crossings exists, and that we will allow nothing to get in the way of helping people find their way back to God.

I love it! I'm thinking about how CCC could take a week off to focus on our understanding our mission.
