Jesus in the movies…

I’ve always been fascinated by the film portrayals of Jesus.

The reasons are many: Who they select to play Jesus, how does He come off to people who might never have heard of Him, what type of personality (if any) they give to Him, all factor in to how well a movie Jesus is received.

Recently, Entertainment Weekly did a piece on their site comparing some of the most well known film Jesuses…here’s the site.

Below are most of the ones they had, I added one or two of my own… Which are your favorites, least favorites and why?

Jim Caviezel, The Passion of Christ, 2004

Willem Defoe, The Last Tempation of Christ, 1988

Victor Garber, Godspell, 1973

(You might know Victor from 'Alias' and 'Legally Blonde')

Will Ferrell, Superstar, 1999

Jeremy Sisto, Jesus, 1999

Ted Neely, Jesus Christ Superstar, 1977

Robert Powell, Jesus of Nazareth, 1977

Max Von Sydow, The Greatest Story Ever Told, 1965

Christian Bale, Mary, Mother of Jesus, 1999

And a collection of Jesus movie pics would not be complete without 'BBC Jesus'...

I don't know his name or the year, but I think the movie is called 'Son of Man'

I just wish Powell would have smiled at least once...He was just so stinking serious all the time...I think it's a safe assumption that Jesus smiled at least once in His life...

...I think that's why I like Sisto's version a lot.
