Woo Hoo indeed…

Wow, what a day yesterday at Crossings…

We had a lot of people (267)…and a lot of excitement generated by being together as a community of faith and by looking forward to the events of the day.

One of the many exciting things of the day was that we concluded our study of John’s story of Jesus. We studied together John 21, which involved me cooking eggs and sausage on stage as I taught about Jesus serving His friends breakfast on the shore. We also served sausage balls to everyone in the midst of the teaching as well.

(One side note question…if you have ‘meat-free sausage balls’, does it not cease to be a ‘sausage ball’?)

As we left from worship we had free t-shirts for everyone, in the form of a ‘concert tour t-shirt’ as a way of remembering this 26 week journey we had just experienced in John’s narrative. (here is what the t-shirt looked like...front & back.) Thanks to Jason Edelen for the design and Threds for doing a great job on the shirts.

After worship, we all trekked out to a beautiful location for lunch together and a celebration of 3 baptisms, which turned in to 5 baptisms!

We had 175 people there at the ‘baptism castle’ to ‘woo hoo’ as our 'Baptism 5' (not to be confused with the 'Oceanic 6') let the world know of their love for Jesus. It was an incredible life-changing afternoon for so many of our people. The power of witnessing something like this goes beyond explanation…

I will post some pics from the day as soon as I can…

1. It's Threds...not Threads. Common mistake. =)

2. I cried a lot yesterday. During the service, during the baptisms, during the post-baptism prayers, and when Davidson missed a 3 at the buzzer.

3. Yesterday was the first time in my life that I've witnessed an adult make a truly Spirit-led, almost on-the-spot decision to be baptized into Christ. Seen it at church camp, but not with adults. It was pretty amazing.

4. Were you secretly hoping that wearing a "Cubs Win" shirt into the waters of baptism would somehow inspire the favor of God on that franchise? Just curious.

Yes Greg...shocking pictures are sure to come...

Jason...sorry, just changed it to Threds...

The Cubs win shirt has been my 'baptism shirt' for about 15 years...I do hope that 'holy water' will finally rub off and the 100 year drought will end...this year is the year...God Cubs!
