A night at King Tut’s…

It’s hard to describe the venue for our little small group excursion last evening. If you’ve never been to King Tut’s in South Knoxville, I apologize now, because any description I will give will be insufficient.

The best Greek salad in all of Knoxville, a great Egyptian sampler loved by most (I won’t point out Michael Sawyer’s distaste for hummus here in this space), Magic Tricks by owner/host Moe, a challenge issued by Moe that if any one of us could beat him at chess we’d get free dessert for everyone (Chris Morris gave a valiant effort but was unable to recall those ‘mad chess skills’ from Junior High), Karoake (Laura Ellison stole the show with ‘Mountain Music’) and a comedy monologue by Cory Mounce, which I think was his audition for “America’s Next Great Comic”, were all a part of this very adventurous evening.

Here are some pics…

Do any of you have any great King Tut’s stories?

Yes, I have great stories. Then again, I think that any time you go to King Tut's, there's a good story.

This is true...once at King Tut's I karoake'd "Now That We Found Love" by Heavy D & the Boyz without even looking at the words on the screen.

Meaning, yes, I had it memorized.

I remember my first time when I didn't know what to expect. I ordered a drink and they brought me a coke in a huge flower vase. That was fantastic.

Last time I was there, Moe made me sing "Can't fight the Moonlight" by Leann Rimes while standing on the bar. But I'm too tall and the ceilings are low, so it was pretty funny. Moe's forced karaoke is one of the best reasons to go to King Tut's.
