Simple, yet genius...
It's probably been 18 years or so since I first read the book...(I think I discovered it one night on the bookshelf at the Branson's home at the camp)I've read it three or four times since...a couple of times with small groups (those of you from the youth group at Farragut CC probably remember the discussion that asked the question, "What kind of car do YOU think Jesus would drive?". I always lean toward a 1965 Volkswagon Van)
It's one of those books that really is almost too simple. A real easy read. Not necessarily a literary gem, but in it's affect on me, it's a work of genius.
Joseph Girzone, in the book called Joshua, constructs a simple narrative that explores 'what would it look like if Jesus came and lived here today'.
I ordered 4 copies of Joshua last week off of Amazon.com for a grand total of $11.04 including shipping. Each member of my family started reading it this week. So far so good.
As I read each chapter I am continually reminded of the simple purpose of Jesus, of words that mean so much to Him like freedom, grace, community.
When people read chapters in my life I hope they see similar words reflected...
