More on the ‘Cindy Lou Who’...’Grups’
Continuing this discussion on ‘Who’s the Who?’…First of all, thanks to whoever it was that posted this link in the comments a few days ago… Reaching Grups is more than Demographics You have created quite a fascination within me about this group the ‘Grups’ (rhymes with ‘cups’)
And praise be to the omnipotent, omniscient Google, where I easily discovered this article from NY Magazine Up With Grups by Adam Sternbergh.
Sternbergh writes, "He owns eleven pairs of sneakers, hasn’t worn anything but jeans in a year, and won’t shut up about the latest Death Cab for Cutie CD. But he is no kid. He is among the ascendant breed of grown-up who has redefined adulthood as we once knew it and killed off the generation gap."
If you can get past the fact that the name ‘Grups’ has it origin in a Star Trek episode, please read on…
The article does a good job of looking at the values of Grups when it comes to parenting, music, fashion, and career. Sternbergh writes that there is a strong emphasis on the word ‘passion’ when talking to or about Grups…
“What’s with the Grups and passion? It’s all anyone wants to talk about. Passionate parents, passionate workers, passionate listeners… Under the skin of the iPods and the ripped jeans, this is the spine of the Grup ethos: passion, and the fear of losing it.”
It’s this concept of redefining demographics and killing off the generation gap that intrigues me the most…
I'd love to hear your thoughts on Grups...
Tomorrow I will give you my thoughts on how this ‘obituary of generation gaps’ applies to church planting…(still trying to follow the ‘Dan Rule’ of blogging: ‘Keep it short’)

Mark, I thought all of the blue jeans in my wardrobe and concert-going and lame attempts at keeping up with pop culture were due to our jobs in campus ministry....but maybe I'm just a grup?!
see you in Evansville!
