The braces come off…
My 15 year old daughter, Meghan, after 3 ½ years, finally had her braces removed a week or so ago. She was, obviously, extremely ready for that to happen. I’m not sure I was. (Here’s a pic of her braces-free in her silly fur hat)
It’s just another step of watching my children grow up. (They are the three best kids in the world, by the way) It’s all a part of the ‘next’ of life, all good and essential, but coming so very fast. Good and essential is exactly that, good and essential, but in the midst of the ‘good and essential’ I want to make sure I don’t miss any of it. I don’t want to wake one morning and go, “What the…where did…when was it that everyone grew up so fast!”As Frederick Buechner writes, “The unexpected sound of your name on somebody’s lips. The good dream. The odd coincidence. The moment that brings tears to your eyes. The person who brings life to your life. Maybe even the smallest events hold the greatest clues.
“Pay attention”, Buechner writes, “As a summation of all that I have had to say as a writer, I would settle for that. And as a motto for that journey in search of a homeland, which is what faith is, I would settle for that too.”
By the way…Do you think Meghan would mind greatly if I suggested that maybe we could put the braces back on?
