An Exodus Exodus…

This morning we’re beginning a two day planning retreat called the “Exodus Exodus” in just a few minutes.

We’ve made the decision to enter into the story of Exodus this next fall at Crossings on Sunday mornings. It’s a big part of our DNA at Crossings, that as a community, we enter into one book of scripture and work our way through it over a significant period of time.

In the past we’ve studied the Gospel of John (2007, 26 weeks), Genesis (2008, 20 weeks), and Romans (2009, 15 weeks).

Today and tomorrow the teaching teams from Crossings and from University Christian Church in Cincinnati are going away to talk ‘Exodus’. We’ll come up with the big ideas, the major moves of the study, and the syllabus.

Then in the fall, we’ll begin.

Reunion Christian Church in Boston and New City Christian Church in Albuquerque and possibly a couple of others are joining us for this series as well. We’ll talk weekly on video conferencing calls throughout the fall as we work through God’s story of rescue in Exodus together.

So…if you’ve got any feedback, I’d love to hear it…

When you think of Exodus what do you think of? What ‘big ideas’ come out of Exodus for you?

Mark: My heart started beating a little faster when you mentioned your collaboration with the 2 churches. How does one become a part of such a network of idea-sharing?

When I think of Exodus, I think of several things...

First, I think of all the incredible stories of our history.

Second, God showing his incredible patience and mercy AND grace over and over and over...you get the idea...again.

Third, just the name Exodus makes me think of leaving (duh) and that brings up two images. One, leaving our past behind us (like the Isrealites) to go on an incredible journey. Hopefully it will not take us as long. And two, leaving our present (the now - just like the Isrealites) behind to go a different way.

Like what you are teaching at Crossings. Are we reflecting in our lives the fact that we are Christ followers? Is it a whole life transformation or just a Sunday morning transformation? Do I keep doing what I'm doing just because I've always done it? Where does that fit in with what God says...you get the point.
