Winning my very first NCAA Tourney Bracket pool…

Since high school, when I use to take handmade copies of the NCAA Basketball Brackets to school and sell them for a $1 a piece to the entire school to create a big pot of money for the winner, I have filled out brackets with the hopes of winning the cash.

I’ve never won a single pool…until this year.

But my winning must be footnoted, probably even nullified in some minds. Because you see, the tourney bracket contest I won this year was at Karns Middle School, against all middle schoolers, and actually it wasn’t even my bracket. It was my daughter Meghan’s.

She called me from school on the day the teacher ‘forced’ them to fill out the brackets. She told me the boys in her class were trying to convince her to pick certain teams, and that she didn’t trust them. (Meghan has been sternly instructed by me in the past to ‘never trust stupid middle school boys’ regardless of the issue)

She called me in between classes three times that day going through the entire bracket and asking me who she should choose as the winner for each game. We worked out way through the entire bracket and ended up, fortunately, with Duke as the winner.

Well, Meghan was informed just a over a week ago, when the teacher had finally scored all the brackets in the class, that I was the winner….er, um…sorry, that ‘Meghan was the winner’.

My, sorry, ‘her’ first win ever.

She has yet to be told what her prize for winning is….Meghan is hoping for a ‘free homework pass’ for that class. I’m hoping for some cash so she can take her dear old dad out to dinner to celebrate ‘her’ victory.

Congratulations! We've got to take our victories where we can get them. Are you attending the Exponential Conference next week?

Congratulations to Meghan! Mandatory basketball brackets? I am sure there is a math lesson there.
Good for her for listening to her Dad about "stupid middle school boys". Boys are bad and all girls should stay away. :)
Our daughter is 15 and has not found a boy to be worthy of her time or energy. We are thankful!

Here's the 'prize' update from Meghan...

Hey Daddy. Just so you can update your blog about the whole "me winning the bracket thing" Ms. Jones gave me an aluminum water bottle, and the poster with the winning teams all decorated all pretty like. Love you, Meghan
