AC/DC & Francis Chan…
The last session at Exponential (THE conference in the world of church planting) is always a highlight each year…Bill Hybels, Rick Warren, have been the speakers the last two years for the final teaching. This year it was Francis Chan…
I’ve heard much about him, but never heard him or read his stuff. He was good.
For me, the best of his teaching…
While discussing with some Mormons who had come to his door: “I don’t believe you’d come up with this theology if you started with the Bible.” And to some Jehovah Witnesses, something similar: “Please, please don’t listen to me…just get alone with God’s word…ask Him to give you the Truth…”
He then related that to us in church in planting…He asked: “What about when we plant a church…? Do we have all these things that we think we need and have to have…or do we go to the Bible and the one big story and decide how we’re to fit a new church into that story…” Great stuff.
Maybe even better than his thoughts was the introduction by Eric Bramlett. Last year he introduced Tim Keller with a ‘Kellerized version’ of the 70’s-80’s band Boston’s More Than A Feeling. This year it was AC/DC’s Back in Black to bring out Chan… I guarantee he’s never been introduced that way before…
Below is one of the version being viewed on youtube…

hilarious.
he was on a TBN-ish show that aired at 3am last night and I happened to be awake for no real reason, except maybe to hear him. I can't remember if this is in his book or not, but he said about his radical decision to really dive into the whole God-thing that,...
"It occurred to me, if Jesus had a church in my town, my church would be bigger because I wasn't calling people to the radical conversion that he is. He's ok to let people come as they want if they have ears to hear. I wanted to grow a big church."- at 9:52 PM eric b. said...
